On October 26, 2024, the National Works Review Meeting of the Oriental Creative Star Teaching Innovation Competition, hosted by Jiangsu University and the Organizing Committee of the Oriental Creative Star Design Competition, was successfully held at the School of Art, Jiangsu University. This event was guided by the International Economic and Technical Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and undertaken by the School of Art and Jingjiang College of Jiangsu University.
The National Works Review Meeting invited 22 renowned experts from the International Economic and Technical Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Shanghai Original Design Master Studio, China Jiliang University, Jiangsu University, China Central Academy of Fine Arts, Shanghai Shanda University, Tongji University, Nanjing Tech University, Southeast University, East China Normal University, Shandong University, Hezhou University, Jiangnan University, CDS China Designer Salon, Dalian Polytechnic University, Jimei University, Shanghai University of Engineering Science, and the "Shanghai Visual" Journal, as well as other domestic prestigious universities and the design industry, to form the judging panel. Over 120 contestants from 96 institutions across 25 provinces, regions, and municipalities nationwide, including Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts and 14 "Double First-Class" universities such as Shanghai University, Donghua University, and Central South University, successfully advanced to the national competition and participated in the final evaluation and defense.
Associate Professor Cai Yingfeng, member of the Standing Committee of the University Party Committee and Vice President of Jiangsu University, delivered a speech on behalf of the university. She introduced the development history and disciplinary characteristics of Jiangsu University and expressed her hope that through this review meeting, Jiangsu University could establish closer cooperation with experts and professors to jointly contribute wisdom and strength to the development of creative design, education, and teaching. Dr. Tian Bin, Director of the Oriental Creative Star Design Competition Organizing Committee and Director of the Institute of Industrial Economics at the International Economic and Technical Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, stated that teacher teaching competitions, as exemplary activities within the Oriental Creative Star series, should fully implement the concept of "promoting teaching and research through competitions." Professor Liu Weiya, Executive Chairman of the competition's judging panel and leading master of the Shanghai Original Design Master Studio, provided a detailed introduction of the competition rules and schedule, and shared in-depth on the innovative concept and characteristics of the competition. Professor Liu emphasized that the competition's core purpose was to promote the deep integration of teaching, research, employment, and industry, aiming to explore and practice an innovative development model. The representative of the final evaluation experts, Executive Editor-in-Chief of the Oriental Creative Journal, and Professor Fan Kaixi from China Central Academy of Fine Arts, introduced the new requirements for the development of higher design education in China's national development vision for 2035, as well as new trends in the transformation of the design industry and professional formats. From the perspectives of discipline construction and teaching development, he proposed that design disciplines must adapt to the new concepts and systems of national development strategies. Teachers should fully consider the new requirements for the development of design disciplines in the AI era and adapt to new forms of future design discipline teaching development.
At the opening ceremony, Associate Professor Cai Yingfeng and Professor Liu Weiya, Executive Chairman of the competition's judging panel, presented review certificates to the national competition's final evaluation experts and took a group photo for commemoration.
After the opening ceremony, all judges and participating teachers conducted defense and review activities for the submitted works within the School of Art, Jiangsu University.
Finally, during the summary session of the national competition works review, participants engaged in in-depth exchanges and formulated standardized systems focusing on how to further enhance the competition's influence, optimize competition rules and schedules, and improve work quality. The meeting emphasized the importance of innovative teaching concepts and put forward suggestions for updating educational concepts, clarifying teaching objectives, optimizing teaching content, and innovating teaching methods to enhance teachers' teaching innovation capabilities.
This event provided new avenues and possibilities for the collaboration between teaching and research, university-enterprise cooperation, the integration of theory and practice, and the fusion of education and industry, as jointly organized by the Oriental Creative Star Design Competition Organizing Committee, the School of Art, Jiangsu University, and Jingjiang College of Jiangsu University.
