Briefing on Jiangnan Art History Graduate Workshop - Zhang Hongwei: From Jiangnan to the Forbidden City

April 14 morning, "Jiangnan art history graduate workshop" in the School of Art 1302 wisdom classroom ushered in our first lecture. To build the Jiangnan art discipline system, enhance the academic height, and expand postgraduate students' academic vision, we are honored to invite the Palace Museum Institute of Palace Studies Director, research curator, Dr. Zhang Hongwei, history. He discussed with the faculty and students of the School of Art "from Jiangnan to the Forbidden City" in the context of cultural heritage, research value and guidance on academic research. This lecture by Dr. Jiang Yongshuai, associate professor and master's degree supervisor of Jiangsu University, is an academic host.


First of all, Mr. Zhang Hongwei defined the scope of the Jiangnan region in his lecture and introduced the nature of Jiangnan art research and research prospects. He believed that the scope of Jiangnan should be positioned in the Taihu Lake basin. Furthermore, he affirmed that Jiangnan art research is a promising and characteristic research direction with comprehensive academic research approaches.

Second, Mr. Zhang Hongwei elaborated on the relationship between Jiangnan art and the National Palace Museum and its research value. He pointed out that Jiangnan art is an essential branch in Chinese art history and that the National Palace Museum has many collections related to Jiangnan that have not yet been noticed or studied in depth by scholars. He cited the Qianlong emperor as an example, arguing that Qianlong's paintings and calligraphy carry a southern literati complex. The art of Jiangnan went north, closely related to the emperor's will.

Thirdly, Mr. Zhang Hongwei explained how to use the materials of the cultural relics of the Forbidden City, especially for the graduate students who asked how to use the resource materials. He believes that now is a good time to do scholarship, an era of information pouring out. Therefore, he earnestly hoped that graduate students could use the material resources in this era for academic research, especially first-hand information.

Finally, Mr. Zhang Hongwei advised on selecting topics for graduate students' academic papers. According to Mr. Zhang, it is necessary to do top research on the selected topic. Furthermore, emphasis was placed on more reading and problem awareness, reading to find problems, and developing from minor problems to great articles.

In the interactive session, Mr. Zhang answered the questions of the graduate students. Then, he encouraged them to enter into in-depth research on the workshop topic "From Jiangnan to the Forbidden City."

Zhang Hongwei, Director of the Institute of Palace Studies at the National Palace Museum-Institute, research curator, studied in the history department of Shandong University, the people's university of China, the institute of qing history, Fudan university institute of Chinese history and geography, doctor of history. 1985 in the Chinese institute of publishing science served as deputy director of the editorial department of the Chinese book publishing house, vice president of the Chinese book publishing house, Director of the basic theory research unit of the Chinese Institute of publishing science. 1998 in the national palace museum, served as president of the forbidden city publishing house, secretary in 1998 at the Palace Museum, served as President and Secretary of the Forbidden City Press, Director of the Department of publishing at the Palace Museum, currently Director of the Institute of Palace Studies, research curator at the Palace Museum. Main research interests are Palace studies, the history of Chinese books, and the Ming and Qing dynasties. Insist on using first-hand information, focusing on the combination of cultural relics and documents, favoring historical evidence, and in recent years is committed to the hooking and sinking based on incomplete historical materials, based on the logical reconstruction of historical events. Author of the cultural history publication, the Forbidden City, the study of Chinese publishing in the 16th-19th centuries, co-author of the publication of contemporary China, the history of Chinese editing and publishing, etc., edited the Boya Classic Series, the Forbidden City Studies Vision Series.
