On October 29th, the 2022 Jiangsu Graduate Student "Contemporary Narrative Creative Design Competition for Rural Museums" forum and closing ceremony was held at the School of Arts of Jiangsu University, hosted by the Jiangsu Provincial Art Graduate Education Steering Committee and undertaken by the Graduate School of Jiangsu University and the School of Arts of Jiangsu University. The event was held in a combination of online and offline mode, Professor Chen Lusheng, former deputy director of the National Museum, researcher and doctoral supervisor of the National Museum, Professor Zhang Linghao, Dean and Doctoral Supervisor of Nanjing University of the Arts, Deputy Dean and Doctoral Supervisor of School of Design, Jiangnan University Prof. Shoushuai Du, Director of Brand Innovation Design Center, Nanjing Normal University Prof. Zhenhan Wu, Assistant Dean of School of Art and Design, Nanjing University of Technology, Prof. Qian Fengde, Professor Yan Bo of the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Hohai University and other experts and scholars participated in the event online, and Professor Quan Li, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of Jiangsu University, Vice President and doctoral supervisor, Zhou Zhengsong, Vice Dean of the Graduate School of Jiangsu University, as well as all leaders of the School of Arts and some graduate student representatives attended the offline forum.
The forum and closing ceremony are divided into four parts, one is the opening ceremony of the forum, the second is a series of expert lectures and the round table on "academic innovation and talent training", the third is the roadshow of the excellent works of the competition and expert comments, and the fourth is the award ceremony and closing ceremony of the competition.
The opening ceremony of the forum was presided over by Zhu Lixin, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Arts of Jiangsu University. First of all, Professor Quan Li, vice president and doctoral supervisor of Jiangsu University, delivered a speech on behalf of the university, and he expressed warm congratulations on the successful holding of the creative design competition on behalf of Jiangsu University! I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the Jiangsu Provincial Art Graduate Education Steering Committee, Chen Lusheng Museum, Jiangsu Industrial Design Society, and experts, scholars, teachers and students from many sister universities who organized, supported and participated in the competition. He introduced the achievements of Jiangsu University in the construction of agricultural disciplines in recent years and the achievements of the School of Arts relying on the advantages of the school's agricultural engineering discipline cluster, focusing on the design topic of "production, life and ecology", deeply exploring the relationship between urban and rural "people, environment and culture", carrying out research on the theme of sustainable development, and striving to achieve a series of achievements in practical transformation services. He pointed out that the development and construction of rural culture in the future will inevitably need to give full play to the important role of colleges and universities in the revitalization of rural culture, and give full play to the joint force of "think tank", "information database" and "talent pool" of colleges and universities. He hoped that the successful holding of this competition would build a newer and higher platform for Guangzhou University students, so that more students could devote themselves to the practice of rural cultural development. He said that with the strong support of the school, the School of Arts of Jiangsu University will adhere to the vision of "Rural Talents Revitalization Art Pilot Zone", inspire the wisdom and truth of scientific and humanistic innovation with true beauty, enlighten the truth with beauty, and contribute due wisdom and strength to the national rural revitalization strategy.
The series of expert lectures in the morning was chaired by Han Rong, Dean of the School of Arts of Jiangsu University, and invited Professor Chen Lusheng, former Deputy Director of the National Museum of China, and Professor Zhang Linghao, Dean of Nanjing University of the Arts. In the theme of "Rural Museums Are Important to Rural Characteristics", Professor Chen Lusheng talked about how to empower rural revitalization and development by using the concept of museums, and use rural historical and cultural resources to build rural museums. He emphasized that as a cultural resource, the current situation of each village is different, each has its own unique specific content, and cannot be built for the sake of construction, nor can it be built for the sake of something.
Professor Zhang Linghao's theme of "Design Teaching and Research System and Practice in European Comprehensive Universities: Taking Politecnico di Milano as an Example" focuses on the current situation and characteristics of design education in European higher education, and gives feasible suggestions for contemporary design thinking and professional learning, from creativity to expression, and then to the realization of the final plan.
In the afternoon, the roundtable on "Academic Innovation and Talent Training", the roadshow of representative works and the expert review session were chaired by Zhang Wenli, Deputy Dean of the School of Arts, Jiangsu University. Professor Du Shoushuai, Deputy Dean of the School of Design of Jiangnan University, shared the reform and innovation of the design discipline of Jiangnan University on the postgraduate training mode from the ideas of theoretical innovation, practical innovation and implementation methods, and discussed how to promote the construction of discipline connotation and the reform of design education from the aspects of discipline curriculum mode transformation, practice platform mechanism establishment, and educational resource integration.
Professor Qian Fengde from the School of Art and Design of Nanjing University of Technology focused on the methods and methods of academic research from the professional perspective, as well as the thinking and discussion on the practical value of the project, and proposed a feasible path for teacher-student collaboration to achieve "killing multiple birds with one stone".
Professor Yan Bo, Director of the Department of Industrial Design, School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Hohai University, introduced the most representative ancient bridge heritage in water cultural heritage, expounded the current development and protection process of Changzhou ancient bridge from the aspects of natural factors and social factors, and interpreted the current policies and measures issued by relevant departments for the protection of Changzhou ancient bridge, and introduced the typical binary circle behavior in water cultural heritage and the dual advantages of tangible cultural heritage and intangible cultural heritage from the perspective of rural cultural heritage.
Professor Wu Zhenhan, Director of the Brand Innovation Design Center of Nanjing Normal University, put forward the possible situations that may occur when current graduate students face highly complex problems and real-world problems, and summarized the ideas of "focusing on topics", "defining problems" and "exploring topics", and used this to break through the barriers between classrooms, between courses, and between majors, and how to summarize the comprehensive strategy of art education practice based on design education in the context of rural revitalization, combined with practical cases.
There are six groups of representative works roadshow and expert commentary, including the proposition group works "Yangui Zhuxiang Memories--Chen Lusheng Museum Bamboo Series Posters", "Wenbo Impression", non-proposition group works "Meet Lingnan Wine Expo, See a Hundred Years of Skills - Poster Design of Lingnan Wine Culture Museum", ""Mufen" - Agricultural Helper of Farmers' Families", "Qianjiyuanhui-Research and Design of Public Art Space of Rural Museum", "Cultural and Creative Product Design Based on the Image of a Tiger in Longgang Face". The expert jury commented on the six groups of representative works in detail, believing that the design content was closely related to the theme, the expression was clear, the concept was clear, and the students explained and analyzed vividly and meticulously, and pointed out that the entries truly evoked the carrier of people's sealed memories of rural culture, and carried the research value of activating and using rural cultural symbols and meeting people's cultural consumption needs.
In the award presentation and closing session of the competition, Han Rong, Dean of the School of Arts of Jiangsu University, announced the winners of the competition on behalf of the organizers, including the Outstanding Instructor Award, the Excellent Organization Award, and the Level Award for Proposition Group and Non-Proposition Group.
The competition received nearly 30 universities and more than 250 works, which fully reflects the enthusiasm of contemporary students to pay attention to practical issues such as rural brand image, agricultural intelligent equipment, rural cultural inheritance and application. Through the theme of the competition, "Interpreting the Narrative of Rural Memory, Empowering Waves with Innovation", the rethinking process of the protection and activation of rural cultural heritage is highlighted.
The successful holding of this competition has built a platform and created opportunities for more students to combine knowledge and action, sail far, start from theory to practical demonstration, and establish clearer development goals of innovation, ability, value and responsibility from three aspects: professional action, social service and cultural effect. I also look forward to taking this as a research opportunity, so that more students can devote themselves to the construction of rural culture in the future, and contribute to the common prosperity of all mankind and the realization of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation!
