Prof. DIMOSTHENIS DAVVETAS, Prime Minister of Greece, was Invited to Address Academic Lectures at School of Art

On May 15th, 2017, the Greek Prime Minister's Cultural Counselor (2012-2015), Mr. DIMOSTHENIS DAVVETAS was invited to give an academic lecture entitled "One Belt and One Road and the thinking of East-West Art" at the No.1304 classroom in School of Art. This lecture was held by Secretary of the party committee, Zhu Lixin. Associate Dean, Prof. Han Rong, Professor Zhang Wenli and Prof. Liu Jianing, Associate Prof. Shen Rong, Associate Prof. Jiang Songping and Associate Prof. Zhu Guangyao attended the meeting. The Vice President of OEC was invited to perform the site translation. Mr. Zhu Lixin, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Communist Party of China, presented the gift of Jiangsu University to Mr. DIMOSTHENIS DAVVETAS, and warmly welcomed the arrival of Mr. DIMOSTHENIS DAVVETAS.

Mr. DIMOSTHENIS DAVVETAS was the Greek Prime Minister's Cultural Counselor (2012-2015). He was active in the international arena to promote a number of international cultural exchanges the achieve the goal of Greek Prime Minister Samaras ‘s will of reproducing Greece to become European cultural capital (including the cooperation with the Cannes Film Festival, implementing contemporary art projects with the Russian government and the European Parliament, etc.). At the same time, Mr. DIMOSTHENIS DAVVETAS is a professor at the University of Paris, IESA, and he teaches art philosophy, poetry and modern art, fashion design history and other courses at the Paris Academy of Fine Arts, Athens Universities and other well-known universities. He is also an internationally acclaimed art critic who has been invited to write artist reviews for the Venice Biennale, the Paris Pompidou Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Naples, and the Art Forum, Art in America, Beaux-Arts Magazine and other authoritative art journals and Free Newspaper, Echo Newspaper, Figaro and other writing columns. He published poetry, novels, art monographs and many other books. The works were exhibited at the Venice Biennale (2007), Milan Triennial (2009), the Greek National Archaeological Museum (2013), and a solo exhibition was held at the European Cinema, Paris, 2014-2015.


DIMOSTHENIS DAVVETAS’s lectures elaborated on his artistic concept and the art pursuits and displayed his works of painting and works of poetry from the perspectives of the convergence and interoperability of East and West art ; the organic combination of the painting art and other forms of art ; the mutual benefit and mutual development of the East and West culture under the background of ‘One Belt and One Road’ and so on. At the end of the lecture, Mr. DIMOSTHENIS DAVVETAS read the poems of his creation ‘In search of you, In the Moonlight" in Greek. The lectures inspired the teachers and students of thinking and questioning eastern and western culture and art. Prof. Zhang Wenli, Dr. Jiang Yongshu and other teachers and students questioned and exchanged the experience of this lecture with Mr. DIMOSTHENIS DAVVETAS.

Mr. DIMOSTHENIS DAVVETAS's lectures are thoughtful and instructive, which have a positive effect on understanding the culture and art for the teachers and students. More than 100 people, including many teachers and graduates, undergraduates who major in related disciplines listened to lectures. Lectures also attracted many other teachers and students of other schools. (School of Art)
